Festuca arundinacea

Festuca arundinacea is widely used in dry and relatively warm regions such as Southern Europe, the Middle East, the Mediterranean and North America. Its low fertiliser requirement and heat tolerance make it a frequent choice in blends. Even under the driest conditions it retains its green colour and leaf texture. It is a broad-leaved, tall species that germinates in 7 to 15 days (soil temperature at germination should not fall below 12 °C). Owing to its seed weight and size, Festuca arundinacea should be sown at a higher rate per square metre. It gives good results when used at high proportions in blends. Intensive research has produced fine-leaved, wear-resistant varieties of the species.

ASTERIX has fine leaves and a dark green colour, which becomes especially attractive in the autumn months. The variety also has strong leaves and is highly resistant to leaf spot in particular.

Our most preferred tall fescue variety, TOMAHAWK, is robust and dark green. It withstands extreme heat and cold, and its strong root development also makes it drought tolerant, so it keeps its appearance year-round under such conditions. TOMAHAWK is a highly adaptable, powerful component for blends intended for use under poor conditions.

Meandre is a very dark-coloured variety bred in France. It is resistant to wear and suited to intensively used lawns, particularly in dry areas. Its fine leaf structure makes it an ideal variety for shade blends.
