Technical Properties
CultivarSupergraze 1000

An annual warm-season plant that can grow up to 3 m tall. It is one of the best crops for obtaining green feed during the summer months. Highly tolerant of heat and drought, sudangrass gives high herbage and grain yields. Gaining importance in Turkey as a second crop, this forage plant develops in a very short time (60 days). It can give one cut under dry conditions and 3 to 5 cuts under irrigation. It can be grown for hay, silage and green feed in both dry and irrigated conditions. Young plants grazed fresh may cause poisoning in livestock. Although drought tolerant, it should be irrigated. Usually grown as a second crop, sudangrass is sown at 2.5–3.0 kg of seed per decare, in rows 20–25 cm apart and 3–4 cm deep. Nitrogen (N) matters most in fertilisation: 15 kg N per decare should be applied, half at sowing and half after the first cut.
